Welcome to the December 2011 Clean/Green Tech Events Calendar, the 100th post on the Green Whiteboard and our final notice of meetings, events and conferences for the year.  Of course, mid-December we’ll get a head start on 2012 events.  Go on out and participate!

Nov 21 – Building Public Understanding of Climate Risks and Choices in a Distracted Age.  Peter Frumhoff, Chief Scientist of the Union of Concerned Scientists, presents a special lecture for the UCLA community. Please join us for a presentation and discussion of how science is communicated to the public and how public understanding of climate change intersects with efforts to build a more sustainable world. Lunch will be provided.  UCLA School of Law, 12:15-1:30 PM.

Nov 22 – LA Commercial Building Performance Partnership Webinar – An innovative, Recovery Act-funded program that will help owners of commercial properties make their buildings more energy and water efficient to save tenants money and stimulate the local economy. Through the LACBPP, building owners can access free energy assessments, as well as financing at competitive rates to cover up to 100 percent of the cost of their energy upgrades.  Noon – 1:00 PM.

Nov 25 – Buy Nothing Day – the 20th anniversary of ignoring the busiest shopping day of the year. 

Nov 28 – Does Fine Particulate Matter Kill Californians?  The relationship between fine particulate air pollution (PM2.5) and mortality is an important public health issue in California and the United States.  Based primarily on national epidemiologic evidence centered around the 1980s, an October 2008 Staff Report by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) concluded that PM2.5 exposure contributes to 18,000 annual deaths in California.  However, California-specific evidence from seven independent sources, much of which has emerged since 2008, indicates that there is NO relationship between PM2.5 and total (all cause) mortality in California. UCLA, La Kretz Hall, noon – 1:00 PM

Nov 30 – Dec 2 – Distributed Solar Markets & Distributed Solar Summit – Solar project developers and integrators, investors, lenders, panel suppliers, utilities, contractors, installers and other industry players will gather at the Distributed Solar Summit to explore how to take full advantage of the booming Distributed Solar Market. This major networking event is a unique opportunity for the entire distributed solar community to connect, build relationships, and get updates on successful strategies for funding industry growth and financing distributed solar projects.  San Diego, Doubletree Hotel Downtown.

Dec 5 – 6 – Renewables West Summit – a forum where key stakeholders can meet, share information and work together to accelerate renewables development in the West.  Rancho Bernardo Inn.

Dec 5 – 7 – This first International Conference on Water and Society aims to provide a multi-disciplinary forum for the presentation and discussion of many issues affecting water resources today.  Las Vegas.

Dec 6 – Competitive Power Markets 101 Training – a one day program for those seeking to learn how demand response and power markets work, market rules overview, load shedding methodologies, pricing electricity and much more. Fountain Valley, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Dec 6 – Why I Moved My ‘Bricks and Mortar’ Business to the Cloud – the Clean Technology Council’s 1st Tuesday Mixer & Forum presents Leonard Linton, CEO of 1NW Contacts – a contact center company that resides in the cloud.  Hosted by the SoCal IP Law Group, Westlake Village, 6:00 – 9:00 PM 

Dec 7 – Demand Response 101 Training – a one day program for those seeking to learn how demand response and power markets work, market rules overview, load shedding methodologies, pricing electricity and much more.  Fountain Valley, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Dec 7 – 9 – Siting & Permitting Renewable Energy Projects in the West – The event will allow you to meet a cross-section of key regulators from multiple agencies, developers seeking to get projects up and running and a variety of other stakeholders to exchange the information and practical strategies needed to hit the ground running and bring projects to completion in a timely fashion.  Rancho Bernardo Inn.

Dec 17 – Winter Solstice Potluck – Potluck dinner, season greeting, music making.  Please bring your favorite dish to SHARE!  Wright Organic Resource Center, Malibu, 1:00 – 5:00 PM
