Los Angeles Clean Tech Calendar 2012 – August

Welcome to the August 2012 Clean Tech Calendar of events for southern California.  This Calendar is provided by Green LAVA – the Strategic Interest Group of the Los Angeles Venture Association dedicated to exploring and explaining regional clean and green technology, business and trends.

July 22 – 26 – The 2012 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting.  The premier power engineering conference will bring together practicing power engineers and academics from all over the world.  Scheduled Super Session topics are:

– Wind, Solar and other Distributed Generation & Energy Storage Opportunities and Challenges
– Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles
– Innovations in Communications for Power Systems
– Nuclear Power
– Managing Power Systems Under Changing Conditions

July 23 – Global Alternative Energy Alliance Fundraiser Global Alternative Energy Alliance will receive 10% of all dine-in and take-out proceeds during the date and time specified.  Paco’s Mexican Restaurant, Arcadia, Noon – 9:00 PM

July 31 – PortTech Los Angeles Presentation Prep meeting for entrepreneurs wanting to participate in PortTechEXPO to be held in Sept down at the Cabrillo Marina Double Tree Hotel.  This prep meeting will focus on what entrepreneurs have to do to successfully pitch.  New this year, the pitch competition for entrepreneurs with innovative clean tech applications will be held on the evening of September 5th at the 3rd Annual PortTechExpo.  Angel and Venture Investors, business advisors and coaches, attorneys, accountants, and port representatives will be in attendance.  Los Angeles Harbor College, 10AM – noon.

August 7 – The Clean Technology Council First Tuesday Event – Converting Waste to Energy with Fuel Cells will feature a presentation by Tom McGrath, Founder/Chief Sustainability Officer at LABS Renewable Energy.  Leveraging developments in organic waste convergence and fuel cell electrical power generation, Tom McGrath is building waste-to-energy systems with zero emissions.  Westlake Village, 6:00 PM.

August 10 – The 6th Annual San Bernardino County Water Conference – government officials, water management representatives, business leaders and community stakeholders will attend the San Bernardino County Water Conference to discuss the vision for our future.  Double Tree, Ontario, 8:00 AM – noon.

August 14 – LAVA Annual Venture Capital Panel featuring local VCs

August 16 or 22 – PortTechLA commercialization center and incubator program will host a mentor, coaching and mock judging session for clean technology companies developing innovative products or services.  Registration for “Does Your Pitch Measure Up” at PortTechLA website to attend the prep session, July 31st.   These sessions will feature start-ups and emerging growth companies competing to present their companies to investors, business executives and service providers at the PortTechEXPO – Sept 5, in San Pedro.  These two sessions will be held at local sites – 10 AM – noon, both days.   

August 30 – 31 – Women in Green Forum  (WIGF) will bring together renowned female professionals from the sustainability field to highlight women’s impact on the environmental arena, promote sustainable products and emerging green companies, and provide opportunities for women to learn about careers in sustainability. The event will attract an international audience focused on environmental issues, including academic researchers, business experts, energy analysts, and technology developers.
