Dr. Marie Talnack to present SBIR Workshop at PortTech EXPO

Dr. Marie Talnack will present a workshop to assist small businesses on how to work with the SBIR/STTR Program during the 3rd Annual PortTech EXPO, September 6, DoubleTree Hilton in Cabrillo Marina.  The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program is the federal government’s largest R&D grants program targeted to the small business community.

Over $2.5 billion is available annually to help fund the development of promising new technologies.  During the EXPO, Dr. Talnack will also be available for one-on-one consultations.  Dr. Talnack has worked in both public programs and private industry. Her major interest is in the transfer of technologies from publicly funded research to small businesses in order to commercialize technology to create new business opportunities.

Dr. Talnack’s career in Technology Transfer and Business Development has spanned over 25 years as a Technology Transfer and Commercialization Specialist. She holds a Doctorate in Science and Technology Policy from the University of Southern California, Finance and Marketing (MBA, the University of New Mexico), and International Management (Masters in International Management, Thunderbird University).

On September 5th and 6th, PortTech Los Angeles welcomes community and industry leaders, technology entrepreneurs, university researchers, and investors to PortTech EXPO 2012.  The 3rd Annual EXPO will focus on products and services, issues and opportunities for enterprises and entrepreneurs with emphasis on trade, transportation and logistics. EXPO program topics include: Financing Technologies for Ports and Beyond; Labor Opportunities Enabled by New Technologies; and Environmental Technologies for a Sustainable Future. PortTech EXPO 2012 also includes sponsored breakout sessions, exhibitors, demonstrations, workshops and the Entrepreneur’s Showcase and Pitch Competition featuring clean technology companies.

Keynote Speaker Carla Peterman of the California Energy Commission was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in January 2011. She fills the Public Member position on the five-member Commission where four of the five members by law are required to have professional training in specific areas – engineering or physical science, environmental protection, economics, and law. Commissioner Peterman focus areas include renewables, transportation, natural gas, and the Integrated Energy Policy Report.

PortTech EXPO 2012 is hosted by PortTechLA, a 501(c)(3) clean technology commercialization center and incubator program adjacent the Port of Los Angeles.
