Los Angeles Clean Tech Calendar 2013 – January

alt  Happy New Year!  Welcome to the January 2013 Clean Tech Calendar of events for southern California. This Calendar is provided by Green LAVA – the Strategic Interest Group of the Los Angeles Venture Association dedicated to exploring and explaining regional clean and green technology, business and trends.

It is a light month – as January tends to be but there are some pretty good meetings/events/conferences to keep you interested until things perk up in February and March.

Jan 8  – PortTech Forum invites John Ellis (CPA), Steve Colome of EcoPAS emission control technology and marketing expert Ann Lee to explain opportunities and challenges entrepreneurs can look forward to in the new year. Los Angeles Harbor College, 10:00 AM – noon.

Jan 9 – The Clean Technology Council kicks off with a Sustainability Summit “Being Green Saves You Green” featuring a panel of experts:  Neil Popowitz of Freilich & Popowitz LLP; Walley Geer of sustaining housing developer Greymar Associates; Fernando Tapia of the largest US panel manufacturer SolarWorld and Brent Locke, GM of energy management firm EnerGtech Experts.  Westlake Village, 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Jan 10 – UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability presents the Experiences of an Environmental Justice Advocate, Joseph Lyou, PhD of the Coalition for Clean Air.  Dr Lyou will review the history of key environmental justice policy debates, discuss the challenges confronting environmental justice advocates and provide insights into the perspectives and experiences of California’s environmental justice leaders.  UCLA, 4:00 – 5:30 PM.

Jan 15 – Green LAVA hosts Mikael Elley, Director of IT for Fisker Automotive.  Mr. Elley will provide his first hand experience with the startup of one of the world’s leading electric automotive companies.  Real Office Centers, Santa Monica, 6:00 – 9:00 PM.

Jan 15 – 16 – 5th Annual Solar Power Generation USA Conference, Exhibit and Awards brings together the companies and executives in the vanguard of solar power – executives, managers, technologists of utilities, developers and investors.  Panels, working groups and round table discussions are featured.  Marriott Resort and Spa, Newport Beach.

Jan 17 – SBIR/STTR Workshop in San Pedro.  PortTech Los Angeles and Talnack & Associates will present a comprehensive overview of writing and submitting proposals for the $2.5 B of SBIR/STTR funding available during 2013.  Marie Talnack, PhD, has 25 years of experience assisting individuals and firms applying for SBIR/STTR grants from 11 Federal Agencies.   The workshop is limited to those firms and entrepreneurs needing hands-on instruction with proposal strategies, collateral preparation and agency specific submittal procedures.  PortTech Offices, San Pedro, 9 AM – 3 PM.

Jan 28 -31 – 4th Annual Next Generation Bio-Based Chemicals will convene with strategists, financiers, business development officers, product stewards, and R&D directors from chemicals, bioplastics, consumer goods, and agribiz leaders from around the world.  The premier global deal-making hub for the sustainable chemicals industry will meet at the Hilton San Diego/Del Mar.

Jan 29 – 31 – Green Data Center Conference is a comprehensive educational experience for data center professionals looking to optimize their facility through increased energy efficiency and innovative data center design trends. Industry experts, interactive workshops and case study presentations will be used to demonstrate the cost saving benefits of “greening” your facility.  Marriott La Jolla.
