alt   Welcome to the March 2013 Clean Tech Calendar of events for southern California. This Calendar is provided by Green LAVA – the Strategic Interest Group of the Los Angeles Venture Association dedicated to exploring and explaining regional clean and green technology, business and trends.

Feb 19 -20 – SAE Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technologies Symposium The tenth anniversary of this event will take a unique, comprehensive examination of the rapidly growing fields – past, present and future – and focus on the latest technologies and advancements in the hybrid and electric vehicle markets. Hear first-hand knowledge from leaders in the industry on topics ranging from energy storage, battery technology, plug-in technology, utility preparedness, field testing, fuel cells, regulations and standards.  Anaheim Hilton.

Feb 22 – 4th Annual UCLA Green Job Fair is dedicated to bringing top firms to UCLA to recruit talented & qualified students from a variety of disciplines.   It is the perfect opportunity for students to network with employers and learn more about careers in the environmental industry.   UCLA Ackerman Grand Ballroom, 9 AM – noon.

Feb 25 – 27 – The ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit is the premier event dedicated to transformative energy solutions. This unique event brings together thought leaders from academia, business, and government to discuss cutting-edge energy issues and facilitate relationships to help move technologies into the marketplace. March 8 – Climate Resolve and the City of Los Angeles convenes the Hot City Cool Roofs conference at City Hall.  This exclusive conference brings together experts, innovators, and policymakers to inform the Los Angeles area leaders on cool roof technologies and how cool roofs can help Los Angeles survive and thrive in a changing climate.  RSVP requested. March 11 – 12 – 4th Annual Renewable Energy Development on Federal Lands.  Join the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, Department of Energy Loan Programs Office, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Defense, Western Area Power Administration, San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and other energy industry experts as we outline current and proposed changes to development processes for renewable energy on federal lands.  Westgate Hotel, San Diego.

March 12 – 13 – Transportation and National Defense Forum presented by the American Council on Renewable Energy about the opportunities and barriers for renewable energy presented by two important sectors in the western region: U.S. military bases and the transportation industry.  A product of ACORE’s National Defense & Security and Transportation Initiatives, the forum will feature discussion about the western region’s expanding renewable energy presence on military bases and explore the key policies and technologies that are setting California apart as a leader in clean transportation.  Marriott Marquis & Marina, San Diego.

March 14 – Clean Technology Council presents Disclose your Building’s Energy Use – It’s the Law!  Assembly Bill 1103 (AB1103) goes into effect this year. California’s commercial building owners, facility managers and real estate brokers are scrambling to understand the new law and how to collect and provide the required data for a sale or lease. Nicolas Serieys is familiar with AB1103 requirements as a California Licensed Professional Engineer and a Certified Permitting Professional for the South Coast Air Quality Management District.  Las Virgenes Water District, Calabasas, 5:30 PM.

March 14 – A Discussion with Dr. Steven Koonin and Caltech’s Professor Nate Lewis. Discussion topics to include climate, energy, national security and all things in between as time permits. Q&A from the audience will follow the conversation. Dr. Koonin is a theoretical physicist who has served as Undersecretary of Energy for Science, Chief Scientist of BP, and Provost of Caltech.  Caltech, Ramo Auditorium, 8 PM.

March 18 – 20 – The Cleantech Forum is the annual event that attracts corporate executives, international policy makers, investors, entrepreneurs, and industry thought-leaders gather to  examine trends, develop clean technology strategies, and make deals happen.  Attendees make high-level contacts, get exclusive insights from the latest Cleantech Group research, and participate in thought-provoking discussions.  Hyatt Embarcadero, San Francisco.

March 18 – 21 – The 23rd Annual Conference on Soil, Water, Energy, and Air gathering of environmental professionals. For the past twenty-two years, this annual conference has helped to bring the environmental science community closer together by providing a forum to facilitate the exchange of information of technological advances, new scientific achievements, and the effectiveness of standing environmental regulation programs. The Annual AEHS Foundation Meeting and International Conference on Soil, Water, Energy, and Air offers attendees an opportunity to exchange findings, ideas, and recommendations in a professional setting. The strong and diverse technical program is customized each year to meet the changing needs of the environmental field.  Marriott Mission Valley, San Diego.

March 19 – Green LAVA will feature a presentation by Quoc Pham, VP Control Systems for eSolar.  Quoc is a graduate of Caltech and has worked on several ideaLab! start-ups before heading up the software development efforts at eSolar – the Burbank based developer of modular, scalable concentrating solar thermal technology.  In 2011 eSolar was named to the Global Clean Tech 100.   Real Office Center, Santa Monica, 6 – 9 PM.

March 20 – 2nd Annual SoCal Angel Summit  is an opportunity for many of the SoCal Angel Investment Networks to collaborate, network and forge stronger relationships while viewing several of SoCal’s finest entrepreneurial ventures for potential investment. With increased syndication, communication and idea-sharing, all players in the start-up ecosystem will benefit. This will lead to greater entrepreneurial success and ultimately higher returns for investors.  USC Hoffman Hall, 3 – 7 PM.

March 20 – 21 – The Networked Grid 2013 will bring together an unprecedented number of forward-thinking utility executives and industry visionaries to discuss this market evolution.  Greentech Media’s flagship smart grid conference will examine the evolving electric grid in the context of global trends and opportunities for next-generation energy ‘systems.’  The Four Seasons, Westlake Village.
