Los Angeles Cleantech Calendar 2014 – April

Green LAVAWelcome to the April 2014 Cleantech Calendar of events of interest to entrepreneurs, start-up executives, service providers, investors and community leaders around southern California. With spring comes the conference season.  Check back periodically for updates.   There are some good events left to come in March and then April shifts the conference and event season into high gear.  Must attend local events include Green LAVA’s event on business competitions, March 19 at MWD;  ECO:nomics, the WSJ annual confab up in Santa Barbara; SBC Industry Achievement Awards in Santa Monica; Clean Technology Council’s monthly meeting on Water Reuse Strategies; and, Growth Capital Expo in Las Vegas at the end of the month.

Mar 17 – 20 – The 24th Annual International Conference on Soil, Water, Energy and Air presented by the Association for Environmental Health and Sciences Foundation.   For the past twenty-three years, this annual conference has helped to bring the environmental science community closer together by providing a forum to facilitate the exchange of information of technological advances, new scientific achievements, and the effectiveness of standing environmental regulation programs.  Marriott Mission Valley, San Diego

Mar 19 – Green LAVA in conjunction with Metropolitan Water District of Southern California reviews cleantech events and competitions with emphasis on the Cleantech Open – the annual accelerator program that draws cleantech entrepreneurs and start-ups from all over the US and recently expanded to global competition.  The program will feature CTO representatives, entrepreneurs who have participated in these events and examine the benefits from the time and effort needed to successfully compete.   Metropolitan Water District Headquaters, Downtown Los Angeles, 1:00 – 3:00 PM

Mar 23 – 26 –  The Road to Zero Waste is the theme for the Solid Waste Association of North America annual international conference that will focus on the challenges of dealing with organic solid waste and the efforts that must address collection, processing, truck design, policy and waste management planning.  Marriott Monterey, Monterey, CA.

Mar 26 – 28 – Phosphor Global Summit 2014 has the most up-to-date news and developments in the field of phosphors – highlighting OLED and LED lighting perspectives, efficiency and operation, ceramic phosphors for high luminance applications,  solid-state white lighting, applications of laser pumped phosphors, rare earth metal supply and demand, and new scintillators for Gamma Spectroscopy and non-intrusive inspection.  Paradise Point, San Diego

April 3 – 4 – IEEE hosts the 6th Annual Green Technologies Conference with this year’s focus on green technology deployed in marine and coastal environments.  Topics include Ocean, Wind, Tidal, Solar and Geothermal conversion; Green Energy Generation and Storage; Smart Grid; Biomass & Biofuel; Green Buildings and Green Policy, Management and Regulation.  Omni Corpus Christi, TX

April 17 – Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative (CEMI) Western Regional Summit  The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) launched the The Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative (CEMI) in March 2013 as a growing commitment to American competitiveness and to address challenges across the energy and manufacturing sectors.  As part of this initiative, DOE is organizing regional summits around the country. The CEMI Western Regional Summit is the second in this series and will bring together up to 250 manufacturing stakeholders from across the West Coast. Parc 55 Wyndham, San Francisco

April 23 – The Clean Technology Council presents Subir Bhattacharjee, CTO of Water Planet Engineering discussing New Water Reuse Strategies at this month’s event.  Water scarcity and droughts are shaping new water strategies. California’s complex industry and agriculture environment has fostered discussions on how to tap new sources of water, recycling, new technology, reuse, cost of water management and fair use. One approach is to assign a value to the quality of water. April 29 – 30 – The Solar Energy Power Association (SEPA) presents the Utility Solar Conference,  an exclusive forum for utilities to share their experiences, exchange ideas, and talk through various strategies and business models in an intimate environment free of outside influences. The conference brings together utilities interested in improving, expanding or developing a viable long-term solar strategy.  Due to regulatory concerns, the event is limited to employees of regulated investor-owned, municipal and cooperative utilities and federal power authorities.  Marriott Newport Beach
