Welcome to the July 2014 Cleantech Calendar of events of interest to entrepreneurs, start-up executives, service providers, investors and community leaders around southern California.  These are the events that should be of interest to our cleantech community – reducing energy use, saving water, the grid, investment, nuclear, solar, green buildings to name a few . June 24 – 25 – Greentech Media presents Grid Edge Live, a conference focused on the rapidly changing energy distribution systems, communication networks, analytic and business models will bring together an emerging ecosystem of power industry thought leaders, grid modernization technology vendors, distributed generation and storage professionals, national- and state-level policy experts and commercial energy managers. June 25 – 26 – The Association of Energy Engineers presents The West Coast Energy Management Congress (EMC) – the largest energy conference and technology expo held on the U.S. West Coast specifically for business, industrial and institutional energy users. It brings together the top experts in all areas of the field to help you set a clear, optimum path to energy efficiency, facility optimization and sustainability, as well as innovation solutions to improve your ROI.  Washington State Convention Center, Seattle

June 26 – SoCal Gas, LADWP and LA Business Council presents Energy Efficiency Workshop focused on energy efficient products and programs available for commerical and industrial building owners, energy auditors and all service providers.  SoCal Gas Company HQ, Downtown Los Angeles, 9:00 – 11:00.  RSVP required by June 24.

June 30 – The 2nd Annual Technology Showcase highlights the Los Angeles Better Building Challenge (LABBC).  This free program sponsored by LACI and LA Area Chamber of Commerce provides property owners, managers, and engineers with an update on the best-in-class building technologies on the market today, through fast-pitch presentations from leading technology companies.  The LABBC is an innovative public-private initiative to support property owners and managers in developing cost-effective energy efficiency projects to achieve 20% energy savings by 2020.  The California Endowment, downtown LA, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

June 30 – KPCC’s NEXT series: Nuclear Fusion:  Energy of the Future?  An update on the progress toward clean, resilient, reliable energy from two groups developing advanced technology: the multinational group working on the  International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) and the American efforts lead by Lawrence Livermore Lab up in the Bay Area.  Crawford Family Forum, Pasadena, 7:00 – 8:30 PM.

July 7 – 10 – Intersolar North America brings its 7th Annual Conference to the Bay Area.  Since its establishment in 2008, Intersolar North America has become the most attended solar event and the premier networking platform for the North American solar industry.  In total, 576 exhibitors and 17,881 trade visitors participated in 2013.  The conference featured more than 50 sessions with over 200 speakers and catered to about 1,600 conference attendees.  Moscone Center, San Francisco, California.

July 9 – The Clean Technology Council Business Mixer celebrates 5 years of programs and events that highlight sustainable development, clean tech education and product development.  An evening of fun, games and refreshments! Tipsy Goat,Thousand Oaks, 5:00 PM

July 15 – the 30th Anniversary Celebration for the Los Angeles Venture Association.  For  30 years LAVA’s mission has been “to educate people in the knowledge necessary to the establishment and growth of business ventures.”  Skirball Center, West Los Angeles, 7:00- 9:00 AM

July 15 – Last day for early bird registration to attend the Women in Green Forum to be held at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard in West LA on August 26th, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

July 17 – L.A. Tech Start-up Summer Jam presented by Be Great Partners – a full day of curated keynotes, breakout sessions, over 50 startup showcases and a special Be Great style party to celebrate the growing L.A. startup ecosystem. Join an exclusive network of over 1000 L.A. startups and entrepreneurs including business superstars, civic leaders, press and tech luminaries.  Mack Sennett Studios, Los Angeles, 9:30 AM – 9:00 PM

July 17 – Wearable Tech LA is the first Entertainment and Health Wearable Conference in Los Angeles.  IDC reports wearables will be the fastest-emerging category and become a $12B industry in 2018. You’ll also get the inside track from industry leaders on wearables, a first look at emerging wearable computing, watch fast track pitches from 15 startups and network with top VCs, angels, large corporation (e.g. GoPro, Intel, Samsung, adidas, Qualcomm, Google, etc.) and thought leaders.

July 21 – registration for the annual PortTech Pitch closes this week.  #PortTechPitch Registration must be completed by July 25 for this year’s EXPO.  The competition culminates during the EXPO when the top teams are announced and the grand prize winner presents their pitch to the attendees.  Finalists exhibit at the EXPO for free.  EXPO is the largest maritime oriented cleantech event in North America.  Port of Los Angeles.
