Welcome to the May 2015 Cleantech Calendar of events of interest to entrepreneurs, start-up executives, investors, service professionals and community leaders around Southern California and beyond.  These are the events, conferences and programs that focus on clean energy, sustainable development, reducing environmental impacts and highlighting progress.  Check back periodically for updates.  Some good events still left in April and must see events in May include:  Green LAVA Pitching the Pitches, the LA Sustainability Summit, Intelliversity’s Revenue Royalty Summit and CTC’s Workshop on Mega Drought.

April 20 – Intelliversity presents the Revenue Royalties Summit for Investors and Entrepreneurs.  Revenue Participation Funding — also known as “Revenue Royalties” – is the idea of selling (or buying) a share of a company’s revenue, in contrast to traditional methods of finance such as selling (or buying) stock (equity) or borrowing (or lending) money in the normal way.  The Summit intends to educate interested entrepreneurs and investors, as well as their advisers, and provide unprecedented access to each other.  Doubletree Hilton, Santa Monica, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

April 21 – 22 -The Knowledge Foundation’s Next Generation Batteries conference convenes electrical/chemical engineers, materials scientists, battery manufacturers, energy storage system integrators, project developers, electrical utilities managers, independent power producers, electrical system regulators and policymakers, governmental agencies and the investor community to energize the dialogue about efficient energy capacity, storage and conversion. April 22 – the Clean Technology Council presents “Can California’s Economy Survive a Mega Drought” with Dr. Anthony Hepton, Past VP, Quality Assurance at Dole Food Company.  Dr. Hepton will review CA’s water use, conservation, diversion in agriculture, residential and business with new guidelines for saving water.  Total Wine Tasting Room, Thousand Oaks, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

April 23 – The US Green Building Council and Southern California Gas Company presents the 14th annual Municipal Green Building Conference and Expo.  Stimulating dialogue and 20+ educational sessions featuring strategies and best practices for collaboration between cities, implementing LEED and the Living Building Challenge, and building on regional efforts on benchmarking and disclosure. April 24 – The Los Angeles Business Council presents the 2015 Sustainability Summit – an overview of the long term sustainability goals and strategies affecting business in Los Angeles and throughout the region.  Topics include CA Senate Climate Change Package, financing renewables, energy efficiency, smart grid, Cap and Trade and electric vehicles.  Getty Center, West Los Angeles, 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM

April 27 -29 – The Utility Solar Conference hosted by the Solar Electric Power Association provides an exclusive forum for utilities to share their experiences, exchange ideas, and talk through various strategies and business models in an intimate environment free of outside influences. USC brings together utilities interested in improving, expanding or developing a viable long-term solar strategy.  Rancho Bernardo Inn, San Diego

April 28 – UCLA’s Smart Grid Energy Research Center or SMERC is hosting its Smart Grid Research and Demonstration Thought Leadership Forum to discuss research performed, technology developed, data analytics developed, initial lessons learned, and, the overall progress in the last 5 years since the region and the country embarked on various Smart Grid projects. April 28 – Green LAVA, MWD, Cleantech Open and PortTech co-present “Pitching the Pitches” – a look at the summer’s best programs for learning the ways to engage a specific audience – investors or partners or customers.  The Cleantech Open, MWD’s Matchmaking and Users, and PortTech’s Pitch are 3 of our local cleantech competitions that highlight pitching a concept, business model or technology to the people that can propel you to success.  Metropolitan Water District HQ, 1:00 – 3:00 PM

April 28 – 30 – the Climate Action Reserve hosts the 13th annual Navigating the American Carbon World, the nation’s longest running and most anticipated conference for discussing climate policy and carbon markets.  This event will focus on the current status and future growth of California’s historic cap-and-trade program, other established and emerging carbon markets, potential linkages between markets, activity stemming from U.S. EPA’s proposed Clean Power Plan, other national climate change policies and other innovative environmental initiatives.  Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles

April 30 – The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is proud to host the 8th annual Spring Green Expo. This unique one-day educational event has something for everyone. Whether you come for an hour, or stay for the day, you will have an opportunity to learn more about what steps you can take to live and work in a more environmentally friendly manner. April 30 – The 10th Annual Sustainable Enterprise Conference is about leadership and actions that will drive the California economy while preserving resources needed for a prosperous future. This day-long conference is the North Bay’s premiere networking event for business, government, education, and community leaders seeking inspiration and education about green trends, policies and products. Over 30 speakers, 300 attendees and 40 exhibitors are expected. Sonoma Mountain Village, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

April 30 – May 1 – The Association of Commuter Transportation hosts the 2015 ACT Regional Conference. This year’s Southern California Regional Conference will focus on ACTive Transportation and is sure to educate and inspire attendees with sessions on new technologies, car-free living, climate update, and much more. May 1 – Hosted by the UCLA Anderson Energy Management Group and UCLA Luskin, with support from the students at USC Marshall, the 2nd annual Energy Innovation Conference is the premier energy convention that brings together the leading executives, industry experts, and scholars from the southern California energy community in fields including solar, utility, battery storage, oil & gas, and energy policy to answer these questions and more. May 8 – USC Marshall Center for Global Innovation presents the Innovation Coast Conference, a one-day event featuring keynote speakers, panels of experts and networking opportunities focused on fostering innovation.  The conference will also feature the finals of the Innovation Coast Competition offering $60,000 in cash prizes.  Irvine Marriott Hotel, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

May 11 – 13 – the 3rd Annual California Energy Summit will examine the impacts of Governor Brown’s new renewable energy goals; prospects for radical changes to Investor Owned Utilities; retail rate design reforms; and, emerging requirements impact on future procurement of generation, storage and alternative technologies.  Hotel Kabuki, San Francisco
