Los Angeles Cleantech Calendar 2015 – October

Green LAVAWelcome to the October, 2015 Cleantech Calendar of events of interest to entrepreneurs, start-up executives, investors, service professionals and community leaders around Southern California and beyond.  These are the events, conferences and programs that focus on clean energy, sustainable development, reducing environmental impacts and highlighting progress.  Check back periodically for updates.  As the local conference season winds down we still see some great events.  September has PortTech’s Pitch, CTC’s Information Security Challenge and the Green Festival.  And October brings Verge 2015, the GSV Pioneer Summit and Energy Storage North America Expo.

Sept 22 – 23 – Cleantech Group will be hosting The Water Innovation Summit for the 4th time, this year focused on the California drought and opportunities for the water innovation community.  During our day-and-a-half Summit, we will look at sectors such as agriculture, utilities, and energy from a customer-centric view through workshop-style discussions, and explore cross-cutting themes like financing mechanisms for water innovation and improving water management and measurement tools across sectors.  Claremont Hotel Club & Spa, Berkeley

Sept 23 – The Clean Technology Council presents Meeting the Information Security Management Challenge in the Cyber-Age featuring Dr. Stan Stahl, President of Citadel Information Group.  Cybercrime costs businesses and non-profits billions of dollars annually in theft, fraud, embezzlement and other losses.  Federal and State Laws – like HIPAA and no less than 48 state’s breach disclosure laws – are imposing an increasing management burden on organizations while imposing millions of dollars in fines for non-compliance.  Total Wine Conference Center, Thousand Oaks, 5:30 – 7:30 PM.

Sept 23 – 24 – EUCI presents Demand Response – The Next Generation conference that will help utilities and regulators understand the emerging ‘next generation’ of demand response and its role in the smart grid revolution and transforming utility business model. It will focus on how utilities can get the full benefit of DR and energy efficiency (EE) programs across time and resources, and offer best practices for design and implementation of these programs to work in conjunction with the changing grid.  Hyatt Regency Sacramento

Sept 25 – SDVG’s Venture Summit is the largest annual gathering of VCs outside of Silicon Valley. Join 600+ in the venture capital community, and meet some of the coolest companies in San Diego. Sept 25 – 27 – More than 20,000 attendees expected for the 5th Los Angeles Green Festival.  With one of the strongest waste recycling programs and a strong commitment to developing alternative transportation and energy initiatives, we look forward to growing with this green city. Through EnvironmentLA, the city offers a Green Business Certification in addition to establishing programs and projects to make Los Angeles a more environmentally-friendly city. In the last 10 years alone, the City of Los Angeles has planted over 28,000 trees and each year it diverts 5.8 million tons of trash for reuse/recycling.  Los Angeles Convention Center

Sept 28 – 30  The 7th Annual Transmission Summit West will once again provide the clearest window into the policy, regulatory and changing operational realities facing the industry and the business strategies leading utility and independent transmission executives will pursue to ensure operational reliability and seize development opportunities.  The Summit is focused on the business issues driving the electric transmission sector.  The Westgate Hotel, San Diego

Sept 29 – 30 – CaFFEET (The California France Forum on Energy Efficiency Technologies) is an annual event held over 2 days organized by EDF, The Office for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in the United States, PRIME and the French Tech Hub. It’s aim is to promote the exchange of technical and scientific knowledge in the field of energy efficiency between France and California, two major low-carbon economies. Each year, CaFFEET gathers more then 200 experts from academic world, research centers, organizations, institutions, utilities and startups.  The Village, San Francisco

Sept 30 – Oct 1 – 2015 Southern California Energy + Water Summit forges new connections with over 600 public and private sector leaders from throughout Southern California united together to foster clean energy opportunities, identify long-range water solutions and build a sustainable region.  EWS2015 will bring together a blend of interactive educational sessions, keynote presentations and panel discussions from a wide array of experts.  Palm Springs Convention Center

Oct 1 – The inaugural California Forum on Energy Efficient Manufacturing (CaFEEM) examines environmental, social and economic reasons it is critical for the manufacturing industry to significantly reduce their consumption of energy and pollutant emissions.  The California Forum on Energy Efficient Manufacturing, hosted by UC Davis, will focus on solutions for decreasing industrial energy usage and emissions in manufacturing facilities. Renowned researchers and practitioners from industry, universities and government will discuss the latest research and state-of-art technology for energy efficient and low carbon manufacturing.  UC Davis, 8:45 AM – 2:00 PM

Oct 5 – 7 – SXSW Eco creates a space for business leaders, investors, innovators and designers to advance solutions that drive economic, environmental and social change. In its fifth year, the conference will feature collaborative events to facilitate direct connections, as well as focused panel sessions and exciting competitions that will introduce attendees to transformative products, technologies and ideas. Oct 7 – 9 – Global Silicon Valley Pioneer Summit aims to accelerate and scale transformative companies. Oct 13 – 15 – Energy Storage North America (ESNA) Expo is America’s largest energy storage conference and exhibition – focusing on projects, customers, and deal-making. ESNA connects utilities, developers, policymakers and energy users to craft strategies, gain deeper insight, and ultimately shape the fast-growing market for energy storage.  Energy Storage North America is the most influential gathering of policy, technology and market leaders in energy storage.  San Diego Convention Center

Oct 16 – Hosted by the City of Fremont, the 2015 Cleantech Open Western Region Awards and Innovation Showcase is the culmination of our eight-month regional cleantech accelerator program. Closed-door judging will take place on October 15th. On the 16th, we will bring together an audience of 300 cleantech entrepreneurs, investors, corporate sponsors, university and government partners to showcase and award the best of the region’s early stage cleantech companies. Oct 23 – The Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) annually hosts the influential Mayoral Housing, Education and Sustainability Summit. The summit will explore the 2024 Olympics, innovative solutions to increase housing production, connecting the LA River with transit hubs, new opportunities for workforce development and new sales taxes to fund transportation.  LABC is known for its advocacy and educational programs throughout the region, and is a vital representative of business leaders from all industry sectors. Oct 29 – 30 – The 2015 Green California Schools & Community Colleges Summit is the largest annual event focused on green programs in the nation’s largest K-12 system and higher education systems. With the theme “Achieving the Benefits of High Performance Schools,” the Summit will highlight the economic, educational and community benefits that districts have achieved by making a commitment to sustainability.  Pasadena Convention Center
